It all began with yet another brash defiance of the status quo. Kirk heard the warnings to stay away from a disturbance near the boundaries of the Beta Quadrant, but the loss of three starships spurred him to action despite the deadly nature of the anomaly. Pulling into visual range, Kirk ordered the Enterprise to a halt before heading to the shuttlebay with purpose in his step. He was interrupted by his loyal first officer, who warned him of the illogical nature of this venture. Hearing nothing of it, Kirk pressed on with the concerned Vulcan in tow, determined to obliterate this threat.
As the shuttle approached the center of the anomaly the two men gaped at what appeared to be a thin sheet of glass suspended in the void of space. They didn’t even have time to make a witty comment on the phenomenon before a bright flash and a whirring noise obliterated their existence in the third dimension. Their perception of the universe flattened. Time stretched. Their consciousness became fractured, then multiplied. The clanking of a room full of machinery filled their ears. For a brief moment, Kirk spotted what appeared to be two-dimensional copies of himself and Spock before he blacked out entirely.
They woke in sickbay to the news that the anomaly had itself disappeared, leaving no evidence of its once threatening existence. Or so they thought. Their encounter had resulted in hundreds of picture perfect copies of both Kirk and Spock, frozen as they were when the bright flash of the anomaly struck. Little did they know that these life-size images had also been rocketed back in time to grace your walls through the magic of spacetime wrinkles, deus ex machina and a bit of woven fabric and glue!
