The U.S. Department of Energy Solar Decathlon is an international design competition that challenges collegiate teams around the world to design, build, and operate solar-powered homes that are cost-effective, energy-efficient, and attractive to the market. In the 2011 competition, over 350,000 people visited the 20 competition homes.
UNLV is one of the 20 teams selected for Solar Decathlon 2013, competing with students from Stanford, Caltech and other American, Canadian and European teams. Over 50 active students from architecture, engineering, urban affairs, business and graphic design work on this prestigious opportunity in representing UNLV and the Las Vegas community.
Showcasing a design that represents Las Vegas and the Mojave Desert, the students will be building the house they designed on Paradise Campus during the Spring 2013 semester and taking it to Irvine, California for the competition in October.
