LAS VEGAS (April 2, 2014) — Walls 360, the on-demand wall graphics company, today launched an exclusive collection of Euclid’s Elements of Geometry repositionable wall graphics, selected from the legendary 1847 edition of Byrne’s Euclid by experimental philosopher Jonathon Keats.

Twenty-three centuries after Euclid of Alexandria composed his Elements of Geometry, some of his favorite shapes -– including the triangle, square and circle – will be re-released as premium repositionable wall graphics by Walls 360. The sturdy wall graphics substrate, which was not available in Euclid’s era, is expected to generate new interest in these shapes, especially from children.
“Kids learn with their hands,” says experimental philosopher Jonathon Keats, who curated the collection for Walls 360. “Children figure out how the world works by climbing rocks and falling off bicycles. Repositionable wall graphics extend geometry into the realm of physical experience.”
Walls 360 wall graphics are self-adhesive, easy to install, and can be removed and re-hung hundreds of times without losing adhesion, leaving a mark, or damaging surfaces. Walls 360 wall graphics are created on-demand in the United States, using a premium, re-positionable fabric material that sticks to almost any surface, from walls and windows to ceilings and around corners.
The wall graphics in this new collection include both simple shapes and complex combinations arranged to show ways shapes can interrelate. All are adapted from Oliver Byrne’s classic Elements of Euclid, first published in 1847, which illustrated the basics of Euclidian geometry in strikingly modern combinations of bright primary colors. “The images in Byrne’s Euclid are remarkably intuitive,” Keats says. “You could work out Euclid’s system without even looking at the text. In fact, you’re better off without all the verbiage, as any child will understand (though parents might not get it).”
Profound wisdom is not guaranteed with every purchase. “But your kids have a greater shot of becoming the next Euclid if they’re given the chance,” Keats observes. To increase the opportunity, Walls 360 will donate one Elements of Euclid Wall Graphics Set to a primary school classroom in Nevada with every Elements of Euclid wall graphic sold in April 2014.
“We’re putting ours low on the walls, within easy reach, so our pupils really get to play with them,” says Anthony Quan, math and geometry teacher at Doral Academy in Las Vegas, and one of the first educators to test the new Walls360 Elements of Geometry wall graphics in a classroom setting. “The geometric shapes bring color and life to classroom walls, and repositionable wall graphics are a great visual and interactive tool, particularly for kinesthetic learners. The kids love them!”
Keats anticipates that the effect will be dramatic, but he insists that the greatest impact will be made by children who find ways to break the rules. “The world needs more non-Euclidian thinking,” he says. “When kids start trying to stick these wall graphics onto spheres and Calabi-Yau manifolds, they’ll be prepared to challenge the underlying structure of our society.”
